Year 10 girls at SBUA marked an exciting milestone for sport as they began the Getting Match Fit (GMF) training programme. The session was led by Colin Baker, Head Coach of the London Broncos Women’s side, giving learners first-hand exposure to elite-level coaching and expectations.

The girls approached the session with enthusiasm, focus and a strong willingness to learn. From skills development to game awareness and physical conditioning, the training set the tone for what promises to be a highly aspirational programme.

Getting Match Fit offers the same representative pathways for girls as it does for boys. This ensures equal access to high-quality coaching, clear progression routes and opportunities to be identified for representative rugby league beyond school. The programme also provides educational pathways into the off-field side of sport, including opportunities in digital media, marketing, analysis, coaching support and sports leadership, helping learners explore the full range of careers within the sporting industry.

This commitment to opportunity, ambition and equality sits at the heart of how SBUA supports young people to build positive futures.
