The Computing and IT Technical Pathway is ideal for students with an interest in technology, digital systems, and problem-solving. The course is highly practical and focuses on developing technical skills that are directly relevant to the modern workplace.

Students will study topics such as computer systems, software development, data management, and IT solutions, applying their knowledge through projects and coursework. With progression routes available from Level 1 and Level 2 through to Level 3, students can build confidence and technical competence over time.

This pathway supports progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment within the IT and digital technology sectors.

  • Is this course for you?

    This course is for students who enjoy technology, programming, IT systems, and problem-solving. You will work on practical projects and develop skills that are highly valued in the workplace.

  • What entry qualifications will you need?

    For Level 1 and Level 2 courses, students should have GCSEs at Grades 2–4, including English and Maths. Level 3 courses require 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.

    If you do have a Grade 3 in English or Maths, you will re-take this GCSE as part of your study programme. 

  • How will you be assessed?

    You will be assessed through coursework, projects, and practical assignments, with Level 3 courses including some externally assessed units.

  • Where can this course take you?

    This course can lead to employment in a wide variety of IT, hardware and software development roles, including games designer, software developer, software programmer, system developer, technical support and web development. It also provides a well-established route into a variety of specialist higher education courses in this sector, including undergraduate and foundation degrees.

    After successfully passing the Level 3 90-credit Diploma in IT, you may wish to consider the following higher education and degree courses available at London South Bank University (additional qualifications may be required):
