Digital Media Sixth Form and Year 10 students recently visited Sky Studios, gaining first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in the film and media industry.

After exploring the studios and seeing behind the scenes, including a private cinema and iconic Jurassic Park vehicles, students were set a challenge: create their own short film.

Working in production teams, students took ownership of the entire process. They developed storylines, selected genres, planned camera shots and chose costumes, before bringing everything together on set. Each student stepped into a specific role, including director, camera operator, stylist and editor.

This hands-on experience allowed students to apply their classroom learning in a professional environment, while developing practical skills and insight into careers within the creative industries.

Experiences like this play an important role in helping students see how their studies can translate into real-world opportunities.
