Developing confidence, learning to communicate effectively and connecting with others are important skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

On Wednesday 4 November, students from South Bank University Academy, SBU Sixth Form and South Bank Colleges came together at London South Bank University (LSBU) for a Student Leadership Conference, taking part in a flagship workshop delivered by Loud Speaker.

Speaking with confidence

The workshop focused on public speaking and confidence building, encouraging students to find their voices, express their ideas and become more confident communicators.

Through a series of interactive activities, students explored how effective communication can support them in different areas of life, from building relationships to pursuing future academic and career opportunities.

Learning through different perspectives

As part of the conference, students split into smaller breakout groups for two additional sessions: Networking and Personal Storytelling.

Both sessions offered opportunities to develop interpersonal skills, engage with new perspectives and learn from the experiences of others.

The Networking session was a particular highlight for one student, who was impressed by the confidence of the speakers when sharing their own experiences. It was a valuable reminder of how powerful personal stories can be in connecting with an audience.

Confidence that goes beyond the classroom

The day was filled with laughter, conversation and enthusiastic participation. Bringing together students from across South Bank University's education group also provided an opportunity to meet new people, exchange ideas and learn alongside peers from different educational settings.

Opportunities like these help students develop skills that will support them as they progress into higher education, employment and beyond. Academic achievement matters, but so does having the confidence to communicate, build relationships and make your voice heard.

Thank you to Loud Speaker for delivering an engaging and thought-provoking workshop, and to London South Bank University for hosting the conference.
