SBUA Maths students have been going from strength to strength throughout the school. Six students from the Sixth Form alongside students from Year 11 were selected to represent the Academy in the UK Maths Trust Olympiad for Girls this term. Joining in with major UK competitions such as this builds confidence and ambition for success, as well as sharpening skills through some friendly rivalry! This in turn feeds in to success in the classroom and exams.
We are proud of all those that took part, and a particular mention to:
Joanna (Year 11): Certificate of Merit and best in school
Elizabet and Meltem (Year 13): Certificate of Merit
We have also had fantastic results back from another competition: the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge. It's a long list! Names are at the bottom of this article.
This summer, the department celebrated its best ever results. At GCSE, passes at Grade 4 and above were 68%, while at A Level we had 62% achieving a C or better, including 31% with A - A*!
Prinicpal Annette Moses said, "We are delighted with these achievements, exceeding our ambitious targets. This has been achieved as a result of relentless high expectations and extra activites outside class, inclusing taking part in nationwide competitions. Huge credit goes to the Maths team and students."
