Four SBUA rugby league players have enjoyed an exciting summer of rugby, with a series of achievements highlighting the strength of their development and the opportunities available through their sporting pathways.
On Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August, three SBUA students proudly represented London Broncos U16s at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington, as part of the build-up to the 1895 Cup Final.
Playing in front of around 5,000 spectators, the Broncos faced a strong Widnes U16 side in a closely contested match. Although the team narrowly missed out on the win, the experience provided the students with an invaluable insight into the demands and atmosphere of a professional matchday.
From travelling and preparing with the team to running out at a major stadium and playing in front of a large crowd, the students experienced first-hand what life as an elite athlete can look like.
The day became even more memorable when, following London Broncos' dramatic success in the 1895 Cup Final, the students were invited onto the pitch to celebrate alongside the first-team squad and pose with the trophy.
More opportunities ahead
The three London Broncos representatives, alongside a fourth SBUA rugby league player, have also been selected to represent South London in this year's North v South representative fixtures.
This is a fantastic achievement, particularly as all four students are still U15s and will be competing against players from across the region who are a year older.
There is also individual recognition for Yiska, who has been shortlisted for the prestigious London Junior League Player of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at Plough Lane Stadium following the first North v South representative fixture.
Yiska's nomination is a fantastic achievement and reflects the progress he has made both individually and as a young player.
